Jolson’s wealth of architectural experience on large-scale private homes has been carried across to the interior design of Como.
Each of the seventeen residences have been meticulously considered in every detail through scale and proportion, a palette of natural materials, built-in joinery, custom-designed elements, and a rare generosity of space.
Jolson brings an innate understanding of space, form and natural light to the design of the interiors. Expansive glazing creates a sense of openness, carefully designed to maximise views, sunlight and connections with nature.
Beyond intelligent planning, the interiors are defined by a fine appreciation of materials. Each surface is luxurious and long-wearing, from the oak floorboards to the polished plastered, plush carpeting, natural stone and textured porcelain tiles.
“The interiors emphasise the use of texture and form to create an enduring design response. We wanted each space to feel generous and crafted; considered and well planned. Everything should feel calm and imbued with a sense of identity.” — Jaclyn Lee (Associate, Jolson)
Each residence is elevated by a range of beautiful inclusions, such as the joinery of the bedroom robes, the fireplace in the living room and the custom-designed bathroom furniture.
The design concept of the courtyard is to provide privacy and maximise the amount of natural light that can stream into each residence. As the greenery that frames these outdoor spaces matures over time, the texture of the building will continue to evolve.
Penthouses
The penthouses of Como combine the aesthetic principles of the lower-floor residences with the benefits of an elevated position.
Wrapped in glass, each penthouse is its own pavilion set within a private garden terrace, with spectacular views out over the grass courts of South Yarra Tennis Club and towards the city skyline.
Penthouse interiors, as with all the residences, feature meticulous attention to detail and a highly refined material palette, from the selection of wide floorboards to the custom-designed bathroom furniture. Within each space, a series of curved elements softens hard edges and creates gentle transitions from one wall to another.
Each penthouse is beautifully appointed throughout, perhaps best exemplified by the large-scale kitchen at the heart of each home. As well as stone benchtops and a premium selection of appliances, the kitchen includes concealed walk-in sculleries complemented by multiple dining and bar areas. Surrounded by glazing, this space is both bathed in morning sunlight and an ideal setting for evening entertaining.
“The penthouses sit atop the building as glass pavilions surrounded by generous terraces, with views over the park, river, city skylines and South Yarra Tennis Club.” — Mat Wright (Director, Jolson)
